Week of April 27th

I have been a HORRIBLE blogger! You know its funny, I told myself, “At 5pm everyday you should pause to blog about what you’ve been working on. It’s as simple as that!” And everyday at 5p, I stop what I’m doing and think about that and then decide to move on. I’ll continue to try and blog, but no promises!

So on Friday I tried to knock out a bunch of future designs. Its funny – I let them build up but if I don’t seal the deal with future clients, how can I hope to keep a healthy todo list of commissions? So I want Fridays to be a normal day to end the work week of sewing and work on future projects. My waiting list is pretty small right now – which is fine, I wanted to finish it before May hit so I could work on building merchandise to sell at Animazement – but I also need commissions for May so I can pay the bills. See the conundrum?

So here are the designs I finished over the past few days! I am actively working on this Megaman baddie. His little sprite will appear in two corners of a megaman quilt I’m doing, but I’m making an extra one to turn into a pillow as well.

A repeat client wanted a Minecraft quilt for her son (I’ve already done a Bowser Quilt for her other son). He wasn’t really sure what he wanted (what 7 year old does?) so I made this one of a creeper with a sword imbedded in his head:

But the kid also wanted Steve so the design evolved to this:

She is happy with the revision, although I hope to make both quilts. I like the first one in its simplicity. Minecraft graphics are hard for me to enjoy as well because I’m not a player of the game so the awkward style feels thick and unattractive to me. To each their own!

For a quilt I’ll be making a bit later in the year, I made a Nightmare before Chirstmas Quilt which will be a romantic gift. Fufufu! I ove helping people make custom gifts for their significant other.

Because of the popularity of the franchise, I think this quilt could be a very popular design in the future!

Another client requested a Tetris quilt and wants an exact copy made of one she found on the internet. Although I feel a little bad making a duplicate of somebody else’s craft project, it won’t be a item I relist in my store and will only make once. Its a super simple design though so its not hassle to reproduce.

Anyway these are the designs I whipped up for future projects. If you would like a quilt made, feel free to contact me anytime on facebook or etsy!

2014 Vision Board

My coworkers invited me to come over and make vision boards for this coming year. I have never done something of that nature, but had a good time dreaming up what I want this year to entail.

In the top left I have a have this space dedicated to building a home. Me and C are moving to Chapel Hill, NC this month and so building a home is really important. Ideally, Chapel Hill is just a staging area to an even bigger move, so once we figure out where we are headed, I look forward to decorating a beautiful space that is my own.

Next to it is a space that focuses more on the craft room ideal. I want a fresh and clean area to sew. I liked the thread organizers hung on the wall. Hehe.. I know it looks like it reads “sbit” but its supposed to be 8bit for the business. Also I liked the inspirational quotes about being smart in my creative endeavors.

I also hope to travel in 2014, an put a map of the USA behind it to signify some road trips. I have friends up north that need to be visited. I’d also like to hit some national parks and camp with the pup.  I also fantasize about traveling the USA in my car. If I could get it set up with solar panels and a folding desk, I could technically sew anywhere. A girl can dream.

Another dream trip would be to go to Iceland. ME and C have been tossing around the idea of biking the country and couch surfing. I need to do the research to see if that is possible!

Lastly, I had a section dedicated to good health. I would like to improve my fitness, attain a tone tummy, all them things. I included the healthy yummy veggies because I’d like a cleaner diet and the butterfly for metamorphosis and all that jazz.

So there you have it folks! What vision of 2014 do you have?

Bringing in good fortune in 2014

Its funny how the start of a new month or year feels like the perfect opportunity to start a new routine. A fresh beginning.  I’m a sucker for the auspicious feeling of a new start. I looked up my horoscope info and it was as always glowing with hope. I did want to do something festive to bring in the new year. I filled up a wine glass with “treasure” to represent wealth (mainly 5 yen coins, a few heart shaped bobbles and a lucky egg) and drew a dragon on the outside.

While googling prayers, I found this little gem… May today, there be peace within. May you trust your highest power that you are exactly where you are meant to be.  May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith.  May you pass on the love that has been given to you.

Hope you all live blessed days in 2014.

Happy 2014!

This new year, I’m not making too many specific resolutions, but I am making very serious business goals. My goal is at least 100 quilts to be made in 2014! That is making 2 quilts a week goal.

Looking back, I made 9 in 2012 and 20 in 2013. 100 is a huge jump, however, I will begin doing this full time after February and I believe in my resolve. Root me on and watch this page throughout next year!!

^.~* I put my Live the dream shirt on for you guys. Happy New Years. I hope you bring in the New Year doing what you love.

The art of Social Media

I don’t blog like I used to because it infringes on ones privacy nowadays. If you put yourself out there on the internet, anyone can access your life and give feedback or intrude on it. I personally have never had a bad experience, but the constant shadow of a boyfriends disproving glare has helped seal away my desire to share. I want to please the person who means most to me over strangers who enjoy voyaging into my life. The other complication is the use of social media to promote ones own business endeavors is a huge way to grow ones brand for free. If you have an endearing personality and good product, connecting to other strangers through facebook, twitter, deviant art, pintrest, tumblr, and a blog are all great strategies. So how do you stay private and yet be yourself?

I guess this post is to say I have not mastered it. I have not even scratched the surface. I told a fellow crafter that I just keep trying to put out good products so that I can gain recognition through that. If I work relentlessly toward making one more thing, maybe that is the thing that will go viral and bring me to a new level of public awareness. But I don’t work relentlessly. I’m pretty lazy and pretend I work hard. Honesty with oneself is tricky. In the life I lead, I feel pulled thin, but why? Do I play too many videogames? Do I spend time with my boyfriend to appease him or because I want to? Do I do to many things for others and get resentful? Focusing on ones own needs will only improve ones situation. So what do I need?

Day 12: Coffee! And more ramblings of breakfasty things

So, how can a month of gifts not have one day of coffee? I picked up a new bag of beans, because we were low.

I know I blog often of wine, but I’m really a huge coffee snob more then wine connoisseur. We own three different coffee brewing systems here and prefer to grind our own beans fresh. We usually mix and match flavors to make what we are in the mood for. My favorite is a mix of breakfast blend coffee and buttery pecan. But different days call for different tastes! I wanted to quickly how off our set up, I think its very neat!

All of our coffee stuff is in a dedicated corner of our kitchen and the drawer under the counter holds all the different beans and bags of coffee and our cups. It reduces clutter and gives up more cooking space, which I love.  We don’t usually go to Starbucks because we can make it at home! You can see we have a lot of that brand right now but we also usually have some dark Italian roast that we pick up at our local Italian Deli and I like buying the generic coffee from Lowes foods as well!

Ok, this is an all breakfast blog! I also wanted to share a good recipe I cooked for breakfast the other day!!

So on the weekends, I like to cook Collin big breakfasts, because you gotta treat yo man to keep him happy! Anyway, he asked for Eggs Florentine and in return the next morning, he was going to make me french toasts! DEAL!! I’d never made it at home, but the recipe is very easy. The only part I struggled with was juggling all of the different things cooking. Making a cream sauce while cooking (re:burning) bacon was a struggle. I also cooked the tomatoes in the same pan as the bacon so they were delicious and strangely enough I think everything managed to still be hot when I served it! I’m sorry the picture is half eaten, I was so excited I forgot to snap the shot, even though my camera was laying right next to my plate!! So please check out this Eggs Florentine recipe and wow everybody with a pretty simple dish.

House cleaning with lots of house guests

On Pintrest, I found a whole bunch of cleaning suggestions and wanted to try them out. Most of them revolved around using cleaning grade vinegar, which you can pick up in the cleaning section of Walmart. So I tried a few out and here were my results. So the picture above is using equal parts dish soap and vinegar to clean the bath tub. Yes it does make the bathroom smell strongly of vinegar, but I didn’t have to worry about dieing of the fumes when spraying it and I also wasn’t worried about getting chemicals on my hands. I followed the instructions and sprayed it on the areas with the pink/orange shower scum build up and let it sit for 10 minutes. I swished my brush around for good measure and wiped the surface with just paper towels and the reside was gone! I was very pleased. I used it to clean the shower, sing and toilet with great results.

Another suggestion, was to use vinegar to freshen towels. My boy has a great noise, so the results really where his call of yes or no. She said the old towel smell was gone, but ever so slightly, he could smell the vinegar instead. I didn’t do the second step of rewashing them like the website suggested so that was my bad! It was definitely an improvement.

Next project: Orange Peel flavored vinegar for cleaning! I’ll let you know how it turns out!

So now the house is almost all clean and I can relax and wait for the guests to arrive. This strongly feels of Déjà vu because two weekends ago, we had house guests as well. I guess all the visitors mean we hold ourselves to a high level of clean living standards – which is good… I was so thrilled to see my room clean for once that I took pictures.. haha!

When you first walk in, to the left is my meditation corner and the inflatable guest bed. I know its not that classy to put guests on a blow up bed, but at least they get their own bedroom to get some privacy.

The other side of the room is my massive stockpiling of fabric dresser, sewing desk and active projects book shelf.

So now yall know what my craft room looks like when I’m working on all this stuff!

Oh, last thing, kinda funny story. So when we had our last house guests, I could kind of tell my roomie was annoyed that other people were using his bathroom. During our roommate negotiations, he was very specific in needing his own bathroom, but since the guests were friends with everybody and he’s rarely home I didn’t think it’d be too big of a deal. It wasn’t really, but on Sunday morning after a hard night drinking and celebrating our friends wedding, we crossed the line of what you can and cannot ask of a roommate’s patience. You see I slept in, recovering from all the dancing and drinking of the night prior, and when I finally emerged from the master bedroom – three pairs of eyes looked at me, urgently. The first voice, “Can I use your bathroom?” and they disappeared into our master to use the second bathroom of our dwelling. Second question, “Do you have toilet paper? We used all the stuff in the other bathroom?” Sure, I go to grab the extra roll in the next room. Third question, “Um… do you have a plunger in there too?” hahaha.. oh noes. So once everybody left I left my little TP offering to the roommate gods.

This weekend, I’ve kindly asked out guests to use our bathroom as much as possible.
